Delightfully Deceitful Episode 2 Recap

💛Continuing from the plot of Episode 1 of “Delightfully Deceitful,” Han Moo-Young and Lee Ro-Woom met on a program when they were young. He knew that her talent for recitation was not fake, and her uniqueness was real.

💛At that time, Han Moo-Young’s father envied Lee Ro-Woom’s parents for having such a genius child who could earn a lot of money, and he couldn’t imagine what Han Moo-Young would do in the future. Fast forward to the present day, after listening to Lee Ro-Woom explain how she legally earned her money, Han Moo-Young chose to believe her without asking any more questions.

💛The next day, Ryu Jae-Hyeok mentioned Lee Ro-Woom’s case to Han Moo-Young and asked if it was right or wrong. Although he had thought about this question before, he did not share his thoughts with Ryu Jae-Hyeok.

💛Later on, Han Moo-Young took Lee Ro-Woom to deposit their money in a bank for safety reasons. He also bought her a phone so they could stay in touch at all times without Go Yo-Han finding out. The next day, Go Yo-Han harassed Lee Ro-Woom for her number again but she cleverly asked Jung Da-Jung to help track him down instead.

💛Meanwhile, Ryu Jae-Hyeok told Han Moo-young an interesting fact: JeokmokKID is the alternative school where Lee Ro-Woon studied as a child but left after receiving scholarship funding from Jeokmok Foundation.

💛Han-Moo Young found out through Woo Young-Ki that Jeokmook Foundation sponsored Lee-Ro Woon’s talents which allowed them both appear on TV shows together during childhood days.

💛Han-Moo Young once again questioned whether or not she killed her parents because he didn’t understand why she didn’t report Choong-Sik and instead chose to turn herself in, leading to a miserable life for the past ten years. He believed that Lee Ro-Woom must also know about his own illness since she chose him as her lawyer, so he asked her to trust him and believe that they were on the same side regarding his condition.

💛The next day, Han Moo-Young talked with Choong-Sik to find out if he really shot the victims but Choong-Sik refused to be manipulated by Han Moo-Young again and did not want to say anything more.

💛Han Moo-Young became hesitant about relying on someone else’s money to survive in prison after learning that Lee Ro-Woom would receive a large amount of compensation from the government.

💛He warned Choong-Sik that it might be dangerous for him to continue hiding his identity as an accomplice and suggested that he reveal the truth to avoid being wrongly imprisoned. However, Choong-Sik didn’t care and believed that Lee Ro-Woom would eventually kill “that person” (Shin Ki-Ho).

💛Han Moo-Young discovered that Shin Ki-Ho, who was once a director of Jeokmok Group, had also been a professor and was now receiving end-of-life care at a hospice center. This led Han Moo-Young to suspect that Lee Ro-Woom might try to kill Shin Ki-Ho.

💛Indeed, Han Moo-Young found Lee Ro-Woom and deduced that she knew the true reason behind her parents’ murder and that Choong-Sik wasn’t solely responsible for the crime. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have wandered around killing people here.

💛Han Moo-Young hoped that Lee Ro-Woom would tell him what happened at Jeokmok Group, but she insisted it was her own choice rather than something forced upon her by others. She asked Han Moo-Young to focus on handling the government compensation issue instead of meddling in other matters.

💛That night, Lee Ro-Woom used Go Yo-Han’s secret about needing to observe prisoners as leverage against him and threatened him not to follow or contact her again. During the trial for government compensation, Han Moo-Young suddenly requested further investigation into the case’s truthfulness and revealed Choong-Sik’s intention to appeal so he could delay making any decisions until everything was clear. Upon hearing this news, Lee Ro-Woom laughed sarcastically because earlier on Han-Moo Young had told her to trust him.

💛When Han Moo-Young was a child, he saw how Lee Ro-Woom was exhausted and knew that she suppressed her feelings and didn’t want to talk about them. At the time, Lee Ro-Woom revealed that if she spoke out about her emotions, their poor family wouldn’t be able to afford meat.

💛Therefore, she could endure such suppression. Now Han Moo-Young believes in his empathy for Lee Ro-Woom and is convinced that he won’t be consumed by her. Instead, he sticks closely to her and hopes that she can learn to have emotions before hurting others; at least hesitate before doing so. In addition to fighting evil with evil, they should also consider other ways of dealing with problems – this is the kind of person Han Moo-Young wants Lee Ro-Woom to become.

Is Choong-Sik the real culprit?

Choong-Sik claimed to be the real culprit, and his confession sounded like he really was. However, if he held a gun to force Lee Ro-Woom to commit arson, why didn’t Lee Ro-Woom report him? Instead, she wasted ten years of her life in prison. Han Moo-Young suspects that Lee Ro-Woom may be hiding a bigger truth.

There are two possibilities with Choong-Sik: either he is not the real culprit and was just made a scapegoat; or he did participate in the arson but refuses to reveal that Shin Ki-Ho was his accomplice. After all, there is no apparent motive for Choong-Sik to kill them since they had no prior relationship or conflict. Moreover, Choong-Sik received large sums of money from someone behind bars which suggests that someone else instructed him to do it – and that person is Shin Ki-Ho who was present at the scene as a third party.

  • 2012/2: A couple were murdered and Lee Ro-Woom who was arrested on site has been serving time for ten years (evidence found on Lee’s hands and clothes showed traces of arson; at 19 years old, she claimed she set fire to destroy evidence but bullets were also found on the bodies without any firearms near her).

  • 2022/7: The real culprit was arrested for illegal possession of weapons and confessed (he said he wanted Lee Ro-Woom specifically to commit arson so as to mockingly cremate her parents).

Is Lee Ro-Woom the real culprit?

As mentioned in the previous episode of “Delightfully Deceitful,” Lee Ro-Woom has exceptional fraud skills. If she can use her talent to clear herself in court, I believe she can do it. After all, as the prison guard said, “Her IQ is 180. Why would she turn herself in and go to jail?” The writer designed a suspenseful plot around Lee Ro-Woom – why doesn’t she want to fight back? Instead, why does she take responsibility for the murder case?

During Han Moo-Young’s investigation, he found that Lee Ro-Woom remained silent in court. In the beginning of this episode of “Delightfully Deceitful,” Han Moo-Young talked about his research on several cases with suspicious points:

  • 1) There was no evidence that the victim had ever supported a daughter;
  • 2) After finishing secondary education at an alternative school now disappeared along with its financial backers, where did Lee Ro-Woom live and receive education? Looking at just Lee Ro-Woom’s character alone makes me think that perhaps she grew up in a “forced” family environment which twisted her personality and made her willing to follow orders to commit arson. Because although Lee Ro-Woom has an antisocial personality disorder now, it seems like it wasn’t innate.

Present-day Lee Ro-Woom doesn’t trust society anymore. Especially when appearing on TV shows where asked about Han Moo-Young’s personal information but couldn’t answer properly due to pressure from within – even being accused of lying. If since childhood one received attention from people while parents used them for money-making purposes and Jeokmok Corporation sponsored them for their own agenda then indeed such an oppressive upbringing could have affected how they developed.

And in the show, only Han Moo-Young could observe that Lee Ro-Woom was not lying. According to Han Moo-Young’s observation of Lee Ro-Woom, he must have noticed a change in her mood at that time.

Therefore, to sum up, perhaps this is why Lee Ro-Woom did not want to say much or argue in court. She does not trust outsiders just like how she told Han Moo-Young “she hasn’t felt warmth for a long time.”

There is loneliness and lack of understanding within her heart which matches with Han Moo-Young’s description of Lee Ro-Woom as “I believe you’ve been lonely and scared.”

In the latter half of the episode “Delightfully Deceitful,” Lee Ro-Woom asks Shin Ki-Ho for a “photo.” It is currently unknown what kind of photo it is but it seems important to her and may be something she has been threatened with.

Shin Ki-Ho targeted Lee Ro-Woom’s parents because of this photo. Han Moo-Young said that Lee Ro-Woom herself should already know the “reason” behind the real murderer killing her parents so “photo” equals “real motive for murder.”

Han Moo-Young wants to help Lee Ro-Woom because he empathizes with her loneliness and pain. He knows that her desire for revenge stems from Jeokmok Group’s despicable manipulation so he wants to use her determination for revenge to find out the truth himself while helping her too.

To a large extent, Han Moo-young believes that Lee-Ro Woon did not kill his parents but he needs her to express how she feels inside without suppressing them (which also echoes when young Han-Moo Young saw Le-Ro Woon saying “Don’t keep things inside your heart alone; no one will ever know”). Therefore, using his empathy towards Le-Ro Woon helps him assist Le-Ro Woon and boldly request a postponement in the national compensation trial.

The third person on the scene? Shin Ki-Ho.

The appearance of the “Jeokmok KID” group in this episode of “Delightfully Deceitful” is probably one of the reasons why Lee Ro-Woom didn’t want to say much in court. If we follow the setting of “Delightfully Deceitful,” which is a revenge drama, then Lee Ro-Woom should be set as a “victim” and an innocent character.

The reason she didn’t reveal who the real culprit was earlier may have been to protect herself or because she knew who was manipulating things and how dangerous they were, so she had to be careful.

In addition, in Episode 1 of “Delightfully Deceitful,” Han Moo-Young was very angry about how big corporations always win when fighting against them. Therefore, if Lee Ro-Woom had any connection with JeokmokKID before, it might also explain why she didn’t want to say much in court. Society has already turned its back on her and no one can understand her situation.

Perhaps Lee Ro-Woom knows that she doesn’t have what it takes to fight against JeokmokKID, so ultimately the deduction for the real culprit will lead us back to Jeokmok Corporation’s operation – including Choong-Sik’s current exposure being part of their plan (for example, it feels like Choong-Sik intentionally came out at this time since he received a lot more money while he was in prison).
